Help with regex

Trying to understand the logic behind the regex below to extract the two numbers at the end, i.e. (40.8276026690005, -73.90447525699966).

re.findall(
    "\(.+\)",
    "1110 Boston Road\nBronx, NY 10456\n(40.8276026690005, -73.90447525699966)"
)

My question is: why do we need to have \ after +? What does it do? Why does the code throws an error if I remove \
