Second derivative to find maxima and minima


Just an opinion.

As far as my knowledge goes, we can use the second derivative to check for maxima and minima. If the second derivative at a critical point is negative, it is a maximum point and if it is positive, it is a minimum.
Could this be included in the coursework as this is an easier process to find extreme values.

I agree that it is an easier way to determine if a value is a minimum OR a maximum, but the first derivative is a bit easier when you just want to find where extreme values are.
I think that you might have a better shot at this being incorporated if you put the feedback in the learning interface where it was taught. You can use the question mark in the upper right corner to give feedback on a particular page.
